LEFT BEHIND
What will happen to it all?
A Meditation on Luke Chapter Twelve.
By Henry Jaegers

This morning I woke up as I usually do, with thoughts about how I was to begin my day. I was tempted to neglect the scripture until later to pursue a project that I thought was important. But I remembered a goal that I made, which is to begin my day meditating on the scripture. So, I began by asking God if He had a word that I needed for this day, and true to his promise, He answered with this message from Luke chapter twelve.
Then I thought of Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you." Then I thought about what "Those things about which I thought for a moment was so important. That is seeking the kingdom of Henry rather than the Kingdom of God. (A very pointed and revealing application to me.
So, as I opened the scripture before me, I heard God speak clearly. The first word was to me was "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees. It was a message of the importance of a transparent life. Everything that the Pharisees did was to gain the attention of men. But Jesus was saying, what is most important is what God sees.
Then I began to take some serious inventory of how I was doing in this matter. Then the question arose in my mind, are there things hidden in my life from men, that God knows about that I need to examine?
As I listen to the news and all the lawsuits that are being put forth, everyone has an excuse for what is charged. Everyone in his mind is innocent of what is being said about them. If it were not for all of this, there would not be much news of interest to broadcast. But whatever we have to hide, is not hidden from God. Transparency can only be attained when I am honest about myself as God sees me to be. Only God can remove the guilt caused by selfish motives and actions. That is the be-giving thought that came. but as I continued with this thought of seeking first the kingdom of God and laying up treasure in Heaven. All the retiring Presidents either want someone to write a book about them as a legacy. Some are not content with writing a book, They want a library to be built as a legacy.
Then I read on and thought about the rich man who was trying to decide about what he was going to do with all those great things that he had acquired in his life. God reminds him that after he dies, all of these things will be left for the elements like fire, water, and ravenous insects to devour.
Then the question comes, what of importance am I leaving behind? Some day without warning angel shall appear. It may be the Angel of Death or the Angel of God sounding forth the trumpet of God. What then have I left behind?
The most important is a transparent life. Transparency before God, not men. Men have no control over what happens next in our lives, but what happens next as I stand before the lord and discover what I have truly left behind? Is my message beginning to make sense? When my life is transparent before God, it makes no difference what men think. They can only destroy our bodies, but there is someone else who judges in righteousness. Whatever may be of concern to us at the present, God says. Seek first the kingdom of God. And that is what I tried to do.
And now, what was that thing earlier that I thought was so important? Now I remember and I think God is going to help me find it. And if not, it probably was not that important!
