Our Comfortable Fig Leaves
Part One
Immediately following the Fall of Man, Adam and the woman, later named Eve, found the need to respond by clothing themselves with fig leaves, and to run and hide from the Lord (1).
Of course, edified believers know that there is no place that one can go where the omnipresent, omniscient, God of the Bible, isn’t aware of one’s location or circumstances.
When God called out, “Where are you?” (2), He was not seeking knowledge of their physical location. His purpose in asking was for Adam and the woman to realize where they were, in their relationship with the Lord.
They had been clearly forewarned (3) of the consequences if they chose to eat of the forbidden fruit.
As a result of eating the fruit, they died spiritually. Spiritual death is not a discontinuation of existence. It is existing, while separated from a relationship with God.
Earlier (4), when Satan told Eve that they wouldn’t die, he was setting the stage to raise doubts in her mind when the day in which they ate of the fruit had come and gone, and she and Adam were still physically alive.
Satan was either ignorant of the type of death (spiritual) that God had spoken of, or was hoping that she and Adam would not be able to comprehend it.
Satan continues to promote ignorance of the fact that Fallen Man comes into this world spiritually dead, and in need of the Titus 3: 5 regeneration, that takes place if and when one is born again.
Thinking that somehow, some way, we are all going to “make it,” is one of the greatest deceptions ever conceived and promoted in the minds of Fallen Man.
Such thinking is clearly based on the rejection and denial of Rev. 20: 15.
“And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire (Rev. 20: 15 NASB2020)."
Fig leaves are not fireproof!
Ominous Scripture (5) takes it a step further by noting that although God desires that everyone be saved (6), only a minority of human souls find the road (7) that lead to Heaven!
All lies and liars (concerning spiritual issues) will be exposed in God’s timing (8).
I can assure you that there will no longer be any atheists or unbelievers once they arrive in the Torments of Hades. They will have all the proof they need, but it will be too late for them to do anything about it (9).
The residents of Hades have nothing in their future, except for their day in the Court of Heaven, only to be tossed into the lake of fire.
. . .
When a natural child that gets himself or herself in trouble, they may not be in any rush to go home to face his or her parents.
Likewise, when a child of God (of any age) gets caught up in sin, they too, may want to run from God.
For them, the things of God only stir up feelings of condemnation.
It is easier to enjoy the relative comfort of their fig leaves (man’s futile solutions) rather than acknowledging and addressing their sin (10), and moving forward in the plan of God.
Unlike the initial negative response that many of the disappointed human parents are bound to have, God has already made it known what His response is going to be to our confession.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He WILL forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1: 9 NASB2020).”
The confessional that God designed is open 24-7, and calls for no human, clerical mediator (11).
Unlike confessing our sin to a parent, we won’t be telling God anything that He doesn’t already know!
There is no sane reason for a child of God to remain out of fellowship with God.
The devil has already rejoiced to see us get knocked down. Don’t add to his joy by staying down on the mat.
Among these fig-leaf solutions (12) , is to try to blame other people or our circumstances for our negative choices and accompanying behaviors (13).
God totally rejected Adam and the woman’s fig leaf solutions. He replaced the fig-leaves with the skin covering from slain animals.
{We will see the symbolic significance of this replacement in Part 2.}
God rejects all of Man’s “religious” activity and the doing of good deeds, as the means to make themselves or others right with Him.
Our forgiveness and reconciliation with Him is based on the atoning Work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
