Do You Know You Are His?
1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
The question for each of us, “Do we know that we are HIS?”
For some, uncertainty about their soul’s salvation is never an issue, while others struggle with it their entire lives. If you are one of these, it is not God’s will that you continue to live in doubt. He wants you to have unshakeable assurance that you are one of His beloved children. The Lord wants you to live daily with His peace that surpasses all human understanding, His unspeakable joy that so wonderfully reflects the fullness of His glory.
Scripture gives us important guidelines by which we can take hold of this divine assurance that is so necessary for us to live a happy, healthy Chrisian life.
2Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
The Lord tells us that you and I need to closely scrutinize whether our faith in Jesus Christ is genuine according to the scriptures. God has known His children from the beginning, but He wants us to be certain that what Jesus Christ is in us.
2 Timothy 1:9-10 "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:"
True biblical salvation is initiated by a divine call, God personally revealing Himself to you spiritually, in such a way that you know in the depths of your soul it is Him.
Salvation is not the result of someone deciding one day that they are going to start living a better life. It is not about becoming religious and going to church, nor is it “just believing in Jesus.” It is about the One true and living God giving you spiritual life, making you alive in Christ.
The inspired words of the apostle John tell us clearly, as we were all once born of the flesh so must we be born of the Spirit before we can know that we are truly a child of God.
John 3:5-7 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
He goes on to tell us that this new birth is not a decision of the will of the flesh, or carnal man, but it is a miraculous regeneration accomplished solely by the power and will of our Sovereign Creator, Jesus Christ.
John 1:10-13 "10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
Therefore, as you examine yourself, do you remember when your eyes were open to the fact that you were a lost sinner who deserved to suffer the eternal wrath of God? And were your spiritual ears then opened to hear the glorious, good news of the love of God revealed in the life, the death, and the resurrection of the precious Lamb of God, who suffered and died for your sins?
John 1:29 "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
If you then know that you have experienced a God-initiated spiritual birth, you must also know that there has been a miraculous change in who you are.
2 Corinthians 5:17-19 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."
No one can be born of God’s Spirit, the Spirit of Christ without being transformed by that same Spirit.
Whereas when you lived only in the carnal flesh, you obeyed the desires and lusts of the flesh. But when you were, by the grace of God, given life in Christ, you became a new person. You went from loving and serving the things of the devil, the flesh, and the world to a heart full of love and devotion for God, and the things of God.
Romans 6:16-18 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
If you know these things to be true in your life, then you know you belong to Christ. You know that you are His! You need never fear, for He has made you one of His own beloved children to whom belong all the precious promises of God!
John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
