Oh no, you just sealed an envelope and realize you forgot to enclose your check to pay a bill!
Flustered, you tear open the envelope and reach for a new one and start from scratch. This time you methodically make out the address; place the check inside and seal the envelope. The monthly payment will go out in the day’s mail.
Important government and military documents pass through private offices; on to post offices and on the way to intended recipients. Mordecai shared official information and sealed it in the name of the king.
“He wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king’s signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horses, riding on royal relay horses, offspring of racing mares. In the letters the king granted the Jews who were in each and every city the right to assemble and to defend their lives, to destroy, kill, and eliminate the entire army of any people or province which was going to attack them (Esther 8:10-11a NASB).”
When received, envelopes are opened and seals are broken. We are God’s children; His messengers and sealed with the Holy Spirit. His seal is secure.
“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of the promise, who is a first installment of our inheritance, in regard to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14 NASB).”
