LOVE, TRUST AND OBEDIENCE!
The story of the prodigal son and his seemingly faithful elder brother is thought provoking. There are important lessons to learn from both of them in relation to our current walk with God, our Heavenly Father. Luke 15:11-32.
While the notoriously irresponsible younger brother, who's tagged the prodigal son demonstrated TRUST and CONFIDENCE in his father to give him whatever he asked for, his resolve to leave home, against the father's approval, abandon his family duties and responsibilities and brought disgrace to the family's disciplined culture and impeccable reputation portrayed rebellion and outright disobedience.
The eldest son, on the other hand, OBEYED their father in all he was asked and commanded to do, taking good care of the family business diligently, and in good behavior, but wouldn't TRUST his father to give him whatever he wanted that was already his as heir!
Luke 15:28-32.
The older brother was angry and would not go in. His father came out and begged him, but older son replied, : All these years I've worked hard for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the finest calf we have.' His father said to him, "Look, dear son, you and I are very close, and everything I have is (ALWAYS) yours. We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!"
Both boys broke their father's heart. One, by his disobedience and irresponsibility, and the other by his lack of faith and confidence in his fathers capability. Nevertheless, as any good father, he FORGAVE, CORRECTED and ACCEPTED them, retaining their heirship, place and confidence as his sons, and not servants.
Whenever those who are born again through Christ Jesus truly repent, acknowledge our weaknesses and put our confidence on God's Word and covenant, we're restored to complete fellowship with our Heavenly Father. Our ABSOLUTE TRUST and PROMPT OBEDIENCE to God's Word is the only proof of our PASSIONATE LOVE for God though we haven't seen Him physically. Jesus concluded,
John 14:15.
If you love Me, obey My commandments.
Hallelujah!
