"And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no." Deuteronomy 8:2
A humble status is attained gradually by being made to pass through a process or process. Most of the time, the process is determined by the Lord Himself. He knows what He can bring a man through to humble him and how long it will take.
In the matters of His people, the children of Israel, He allowed them to go through the wilderness and for forty years to humble them. It was a process. It allowed them to know that they were powerless but had the most powerful God behind them. Taking them through the wilderness disclosed the contents of their hearts. It proved whether they would submit humbly to the Lord Who led them safely in the wilderness. He demonstrated His power in their favor.
"Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;" Deuteronomy 8:16.
One of the experiences in the wilderness is starvation or hunger. Hunger is a very hard and hard experience that is difficult to tolerate. It keeps a hungry man lowly. A hungry man is bound to be humble. Otherwise, he may not be fed. The people of Israel were humbled by hunger but the Lord their God provided them with a strange food, called Manna.
This affected their hearts and influenced their thoughts. It was an uncommon experience to teach them humility. They knew nothing called Manna before the Lord brought it to them.
It proved that they should submit to the authority of the most powerful God. If the Lord's goodness is experienced in a way, it means that being humble before Him will bring other sweet experiences and good things.
Beloved Pilgrim, do you know that any difficulty you are facing could be to humble you? Submit to His authority. Learn lessons from your pass through, it will be to your advantage and you will have reasons to thank the Lord at the end of the day. Stay blessed, humble, and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
