In the book of Daniel, chapter four is the story of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He was a great in his time. He was a world power, using a modern language. He was tall and strong. He had all round wealth and strength. Nations looked to him for assistance in various forms.
This prosperity and splendor went into his heart and head and concluded that he became who he was by his power.
The Scriptures reveals,
Daniel 4:30,34
[30]As he looked out across the city, he said, ‘Look at this great city of Babylon! By my mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’
One of the common things by which a proud man can be identified is the frequent use of the personal pronouns, "I, my, mine, me". This became manifest in the words of the great king. He used "I" once and "my" three times in a verse. This was far from humbleness. It is pride that the Lord hates.
Afterwards, he was driven out of his palace to eat grass like an animal with dew from Heaven falling on him for seven years. In his words,
“After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever.
His rule is everlasting,
and his kingdom is eternal. Daniel 4:34. NLT.
After he came to himself, he acknowledged the greatness of the Lord Who reigns in the affairs of men. It is only those who regain or retain their sanity can look up to Heaven and praise the Lord.
All glory, praise, and honor must be given unto the Lord.
King Nebuchadnezzar declared,
[37]“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he can humble the proud.”
Beloved, is it not better to humble ourselves before God? No one is too big for God to be humbled. When this happens, the scar will remain indelible. No matter our level of attainment in life, it is given to us from above. Therefore, all glory should be given to the Lord our God. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
