Concentration on oneself is the undoing of the proud. He thinks of only himself. Everything starts and ends in him and with him. No serious consideration of others' welfare. When he does this, it is for selfish reasons.
This is not the right way to live, the Lord hates pride in all its ramifications, but there is a way out. It is possible to put on a new leave of humility.
The Lord discloses,
"[2]My hands have made both heaven and earth;
they and everything in them are mine.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,
who tremble at my word." Isaiah 66.
The Creator and Owner of all things, does not promise a proud man who is not ready to repent. He is ready to bless only that fellow who has a humble and contrite heart. Someone who acknowledges Him and His greatness. Someone who praises and glorifies His holy name. One who surrenders all to Him and does everything under His authority.
Let us consider the matter of King Ahab in the First Kings chapter twenty-one.
The Scriptures disclose,
"[25](No one else so completely sold himself to what was evil in the lord’s sight as Ahab did under the influence of his wife Jezebel."
As a result of his wicked ways, the Lord pronounced His judgment against him and the generations after him.
God's judgment
"[22]I am going to destroy your family as I did the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the family of Baasha son of Ahijah, for you have made me very angry and have led Israel into sin.’ 1 Kings 21.
Humbleness of the King.
"[27]But when Ahab heard this message, he tore his clothing, dressed in burlap, and fasted. He even slept in burlap and went about in deep mourning."
King Ahab "deflated" himself before God. He brought himself very low before the King of kings and the Lord of lords. His effort was recognized in Heaven.
"[28]Then another message from the lord came to Elijah:
[29]“Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done this, I will not do what I promised during his lifetime. It will happen to his sons; I will destroy his dynasty.” 1 King's 21.
He caused the Lord to shift His judgment on another generation because he humbled himself before God. Who knows, things might be different if he were not under the influence of an evil wife.
Do you know, beloved, that being humble might be the only thing you are left with to receive the blessings of God? It is achievable to be humble. Pray for the spirit of humility to take over your heart and you will be glad you did. We all need him, the spirit of humbleness. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
